My Kid Loves It - Me? Not So Much
September 18, 2012
I read plenty of reviews of these Planet Boxes before deciding to spend this kind of $ on a lunch box. I guess I either got a defective box, or my expectations were too high.
Pros:
- My son loves it, it is the only one he wants to take to school
- Stainless steel – no smells or stains and easy to clean
- Place for his thermos
- Plenty of room; I often have trouble filling it up
Cons:
- The dipper containers are meant to hold "wet, messy food" and are supposed to seal closed when placed in the box and the lid is latched. On more than one occasion, the yogurt has leaked out, into the box AND the case.
- Same issue with crumbly items - the crumbs end up all over the place (box and case) Per the Planet Box website, foods should stay in their own container and not co-mingle.
I love the concept. I just think the execution is a little off. I think I will look for a different option for my twins when they head to school in a couple of years.

Very Heavy!
September 7, 2012
These lunch boxes are simply wonderful, but they are very heavy. I think they'd be fine for a first or second grader, but for my preschooler (4), it was simply too much weight to carry in addition to her small backpack.
I went ahead and sent it to school with her for the first week, and her teacher actually approached me and asked me to get her a lighter lunch box because she was really struggling with it - that confirmed my fears. Maybe she'll be able to use it in a few years.

Fantastic idea but...
August 27, 2012
I love the idea of these lunch boxes. They are fun, cute, and earth friendly. There are 2 draw backs though, which I wish that I had known about before hand. 1) They are heavy. Not heavy for an adult or larger child, but put this on the back of your kindergartener or 1st grader and they are going to struggle to carry it. 2) They really do not "seal" well enough to put juicy fruits in (think watermelons, and pineapple), which is why they give you the extra "dipper" containers, but those can be hard for little hands to open. If you ignore their warnings (as I did) and put the juicy fruits in there without a "dipper" bowl, then it will leak. I still love this product, and am very happy that we have it, but I may also have to invest in a classic lunch bag with additional food storage until my 1st grader gets a little stronger and is able to work the lids on the dipper bowls herself.

Love PlanetBox, wish they sold the bag separately
August 25, 2012
My preschool-aged daughter has been using PlanetBox for over a year now and we love it. We bought ours before Pottery Barn Kids starting carrying them and them and my only complaint was that the bags weren't very cute. I was so excited to see PBK carrying these with their own cute bag designs but the only problem is that you can't buy just the bag. We have duplicates of all the interior parts so it seems like such a waste to buy everything again just for the bag. PBK please start selling the bags on their own!

Keeps Lunch COLD. Easy to clean
August 14, 2012
Love this lunch box! Keeps lunch very cold with an ice pack underneath the tray (p.s. does not come with ice pack)
Lots of compliments! Pricey, but have really enjoyed it. Very good quality and easy to clean and pack. The outside pouch holds the Klean Kanteen perfectly!

Out of this world-GOOD!

Bought the Plantbox for my daughter as she entered Kinder, she loves it. We have tried it out a couple of times before the school year begins and it works great.
Wonderful in keeping foods separated and balancing portion control!

New Bag
July 26, 2012
I had my 4 year old and 6 year old test their new bags out in summer camp. I am not convinced that the magnets will last long and overall durability of inside pieces is questionable. In all would recommend for 8 and up.

Great product
July 26, 2012
I absolutely love planet box. The stainless steel they use is food grade safe, which means no toxic chemicals will leach into food, unlike plastic containers.
The compartments make prepping her lunch less headache, since there is a spot for each individual food group. The steel box is extremely easy to open and well laid out. Edges are rounded for little fingers and the clasp to close the box makes it impossible for fingers to get pinched. This was made with a little one in mind. The initial cost is high, but there is no doubt this will last years to come. Thank you Pottery Barn for selling environmentally conscious products!

Best Lunchbox Ever!
July 23, 2012
When I saw PB Kids was selling Planetboxes, I couldn't have been happier. Pottery Barn is known for quality, well-made merchandise, and this lunchbox is indeed that. I bought both of my children PlanetBox lunchboxes when my youngest was in Kindergarten. She will be entering 3rd grade in the fall, and she'll be going with the same lunchbox she had in Kindergarten. It is an investment upfront, for sure, but it is well worth it. I haven't bought a new lunchbox in three years now. That aside, the Planetbox was designed to help you send a waste-free lunch to school. This is becoming increasingly important in schools across the country. If you're looking for a lunchbox to help you and your family be more waste-free, you won't find a better one.

SO WORTH THE MONEY
July 8, 2012
My soon to be 1st grader has a planet box from last year and i couldnt be more than satisfied with it. It does not wear out, it doesnt retain smells and rarely produces garbage. The compartments and big enough for my daughter and all of her options are separated pretty and ready to eat when she gets to school. She loves the magnets and the bag easily slips into her backpack. She can carry it no problem and is able to open and manuver all of her lunch on her own. Even more fun are the options when putting her lunch together. So many creative and quick lunch ideas on blogs all over. Only great things to say about planetbox!!!

Planet Box is Perfect!
July 5, 2012
My daughter has been using a Planet Box for at least 2 years now. We love it! Now she opens one container and has her entire lunch spread out before her in a clean, chemical-free tray that's easy to open and close. Now it's more common that everything gets eaten -- or at least grazed. The options for the types of food I can send in her lunches are endless and it's fun to experiment putting different items in the compartments. The foods stay separate and tidy, even in the dipper containers. I find the whole thing quick and easy to load with good and healthy food. It's also easy to wash and she loves her magnets on top.
The only downsides, which I consider minimal, are that it is a little heavy for small children and the water-bottle slot does not accomodate a large-enough bottle to keep a kid hydrated all day in Tucson.
Yes, it's a little pricey, but buy one today, and you've got a lunchbox that will serve you well for years!
