Horrible engineering
September 17, 2012
The desk is very pretty, but once it's assembled properly the flaw is major.
Issue is with vanity hutch ... brackets hold the hutch/mirror piece to the desk in the back. However, the weight of the mirror/hutch causes the shelves to tip, so the bottoms are not flush with the desk. Basically, the shelves sit at an angle from the desk instead of flat against it ... lifted up by the weight of the mirror. I did not want to have to super-glue or drill add'l holes, but that is the only solution. My daughter can weigh the shelves down with books as a temporary solution, but for an almost $600 desk this is unacceptable.
TL;DR Extremely disappointed - don't buy vanity mirror hutch b/c of design flaw

Great Girly Functional Desk
May 29, 2012
I purchased 2 Madeline desks, Vanity. The first one I put together was perfect. 2nd, the left drawer does not move smoothly in and out and the topper did not sit properly- although I drilled into the piloted holes, the topper is not flush but lifts up. I had to make my own holes. Other than that - it is super easy to put together. no drawers to assemble and the middle drawer is actually a keyboard holder and the drawer flips down - nice surprise! My girls are practicing writing their ABCs and drawing already. I did purchase a Large clear desk protector from an office supply store for $21 (PBK's is overpriced - sorry PBK) and I cut it so that it hugs the topper - I slid it right in- no issues with markings or engravings from writing. My girls love it for study as well as do their hair. I feel it will last longer with the mirror - I remember being a teen and wishing I had a vanity. Purchased the PBK pink dot chair with it!

Expected perfection right from the box
January 22, 2012
Not what we got assembling DD present 12/31.
Writing Desk: The desktop has a very obvious knot in the wood as well as a low spot (like it was over sanded). It was very simple to put together. However, the drawers tilt and are not level. My husband had to do some creative engineering to get them half decent.
Vanity Topper: The mirror requires more nylon spacers than it came with. Because of this the mirror is loose and can not be tightened properly. It also tilts down because the pre drilled holes, that attach the bracket to the desk, are misaligned. Topper does not sit evenly on the desk.
It was not even together a full day before noticing the desktop does get marked easily.
We would have returned it to the store for a replacement but the initial purchase was not a smooth one so we'll skip the hassle &
poor treatment.
Overall it looks decent and our daughter is too young to realize the imperfections so she's happy with it. Just expected a better product:(

Cute and Functional
September 6, 2011
This is a great little desk for small spaces. It doesn't take up much room, but still has plenty of room on it to do homework or other activities. The vanity topper is adorable. Looks great and makes it so the desk can double as a vanity. Both the desk and the vanity are very easy to put together. This is from someone with absolutely no skills at building things.
