Fits the bill alright
December 17, 2012
I needed a smaller sized desk to fit in a certain space in my daughter's bedroom. The construction in terms of the quality of the wood is quite good. I wish the hardware - specifically, the glides on the drawers - was better. They seem skimpy in relation to the overall desk quality.
It was fairly intuitive to put the desk together, but somehow I was under the impression that it would be assembled for me. Guess not.
One gripe is that a couple of the parts were mis-labeled and it took me a while to figure out what piece went where.

Very nice!
March 2, 2012
We bought this for our 7 year old and she was absolutely thrilled! She loves putting things in her drawers and cubbies and hanging things on her bulletin board. The only issue we have had is getting marks on it from writing, but they have been wiped away fairly easy. This completes her "Madeline" bedroom!

Hutch isn't well thought out
September 23, 2011
Problem is the large opening of the hutch (in the center) does not line up with the left chair placement, so not much writing surface with the hutch in place

Desk is ok; should've skipped hutch
April 23, 2011
I ordered the Madeline desk and hutch using $175 coupon & $200 credit from previous purchases; otherwise I think it is too expensive for what you get. My daughter saw it and asked why I got the hutch - she would have preferred more room on the desk top (2nd grader). I previously got 2 Madeline dressers in antique white w/ distressing which look better. This distressing looks cheap - not layers of white but wood showing through. I'd return the hutch but ditched the boxes too quickly. If I paid full price, I'd be unhappy.

Poor craftsmanship - disappointed with desk
April 8, 2011
We have several pieces of PB furniture in my daughter's room and were excited to add this desk as the finishing touch. After spending 45 minutes to assemble it we were very disappointed in the way the desk drawers did not align properly creating gaps and a "jiggle" when you close them. In addition the keyboard drawer bottom molding was not constructed properly and hammered in an angle creating a space between the drawer and molding. Would not purchase again.

Distress Scratches
January 20, 2011
My mother bought this beautiful desk for my daughter and she just loves it... when we opened the box I noticed, what looked like distress scratches around the edges of the desk top. The finish just says Antique White and nothing about a "distressed" look. The desk legs have the same "look" with about 3 inches of paint removed off the edge of each leg. I called the local store and they said all the desk tops are finished like that and the distressing is just around the edges... does anyone else have the "distress look" antique white?
Thanks JUlie

Love it!
October 13, 2010
I bought this desk for my first grade daughter. We bought the Thomas hutch instead and had slight difficulty matching the attachment, but it worked out and looks great. My husband assembled the desk without difficulty. My daughter's room looks fantastic although the antique white of the desk does not match the antique white of the bed (PBK). It has just enough storage for a first grader and does not crowd her small room. It is really a perfect desk.

Great Desk and Hutch
September 20, 2010
I decided to get this desk for my 1st Grader. She does not have a dedicated space to do homework. SHE LOVES THIS DESK!!! As soon as it was together, she sat down and started using it. And she has been using at it since. Her room looks more grown up with this desk in it also! We love it...it was a great purchase...and we did not have any issues with any of the drawers.

Great desk and easy to assemble
September 6, 2010
We just got this desk for our 1st grader. She loved it. It looks great in her room and it did not take long for my husband to assemble it. He did not encounter the drawer problem mentioned by previous reviews. Maybe they took care of the problem. So glad we got this desk for her!

Madeline Desk
August 23, 2010
We just purchased and assembled this desk for my 7 year old daughter. It looks beautiful in her room. The construction is solid and the finish is beautiful! It took less than 30 minutes to assemble and was not complicated. We carefully slid the drawers out before assembly. It's a bit tricky due to an attached plastic stopper. Just be patient and work/bend it and the drawer will come out.

beautiful desk
April 1, 2010
We recently received this desk along with the dresser and nightstand. We too had difficulty attaching the hutch to the desk. At first it seemed as if the stoppers wouldn't allow the drawers to be removed (in order to attach the hutch), but if you carefully pull the drawers out hard and slowly- they will come all the way out. Don't do anything drastic like cutting holes in your desk!!!!

Assembly Hiccup
March 24, 2010
Very nice desk. Well made. Excellent finish. Shipping container best I've seen. However, assembly was complicated due to factory error. The right side of the desk is attached with screws that thread in from the drawer side. Problem is the drawers were assembled at the factory with slide stops that prevent them from pulling out of the desk in order to screw on the right side panel. We cut a hole in the bottom of desk and were then able to remove stops and pull out drawers. The rest of assembly was a breeze. Daughter loves desk. It seems everything requires extensive assembly these days so this wasn't too bad - just a hiccup.

Madeline Storage Desk & Hutch

We purchased this desk and hutch for our daughter for Christmas and we love it. It is very well made and matches the rest of her furniture in her room. As always, the quality of pottery barn products is outstanding! We recommend it!
