LOVE THE COLORS
April 7, 2013
Bought this bag for my 5 year old son entering Kindergarten. The small size is perfect for PK / K. Holds a standard folder and a lunchbox, these grades don't carry more than that anyway. My son also has room for a couple toys and gloves / hats without an issue. Glad I went with the small, the large would have been too big for him with more room than he needed. Colors are excellent, the white personalization came out great...very happy with my purchase.

Cute but straps fell apart
March 17, 2013
I purchased 2 of these backpacks for my twins - the shark and snake patterns in regular size. They looked great, but after just 2 months the stitching on the snake straps came loose at the shoulder. Now, it's grown to a full rip with the foam sticking up, out of the strap. Probably too late to return, but disappointing. Last year, their Columbia bags (at half the cost) lasted much longer.

A little disappointed
February 9, 2013
I just received this backpack and lunch box. The lunch box is great, good size and looks sturdy. While the backpack also looks sturdy it is not nearly as large as I thought, I even got out my measuring tape before ordering. We live in Alaska and my second grader has to carry his snow gear to and from school every day for five months a year. It will be challenging to fit it along with any books or homework he might carry. I was hoping it would last him through 4th grade, but it clearly won't be large enough. He likes the snake pattern, and it is good quality, just not big enough.

backpack
February 8, 2013
My 7 year old first grader was so excited about this backpack. We had to wait two months into the school year before we received it because it was on back order. After 3 1/2 months of use, the buckle that goes across the chest broke and he kept getting stuck in the backpack at school! After spending almost $50 on a backpack we really expected it to last atleast a school year!

Ripping at the seams after gentle use only
January 29, 2013
My son has been actively using this bag for 5 months - though we bought it 9 months ago- and it is tearing at the top of the seams in two spots. He's in pre-school and carries nothing heavy to cause an unusual tear. It's just poor quality which is unfortunate for such a cool looking bag at a premium price. Not worth it.

Large Backpack
January 6, 2013
So far so good, we ordered the large backpack for my kindergartener. He loves it, there is plenty of room for snow pants, books, folders, lunch box. perfect size for him, hopefully he can get 1/2 of this school year and 1st grade. Quality seems great so far. My daughter had one before and we loved it.

Quality is not what it used to be
January 1, 2013
I bought backpacks and lunch boxes from PBK for my kids last year for Christmas and we were extremely impressed. This year I bought Mackenzie backpacks and it was a disappointment. The actual backpacks were acceptable, but the embroidery on one of them was not. I am not one to complain, but it is obvious that no one paid attention to the embroidery after it was ran through the machine. It ran out of thread half way through and it was shipped to my home like that, with parts of my son's name blank. You would think that a higher end brand like PBK would inspect the product before sending. My daughters looks better, but it is obvious looking at it that the embroidery quality has went downhill. It looks thinner and there are pieces of thread sticking out on each letter. I will probably not be purchasing anything that is embroidered again, I just don't have time to worry about getting it packed up and shipped back.

Snake Backpack
December 16, 2012
Pottery barn backpacks are worth every penny. My son carried the same backpack from kinder through 3rd grade. He just needs the larger backpack now- the colors are awesome and the pattern is not babyish- will always buy my kids' backpacks from PB!!! Pay for the monogramming - as a teacher I see so many backpacks in lost and found!!

I am pleased with the quality of this backpack. It holds more than it looks when you first take it out of the box, which is great because my son needs to bring snowpants with him. He is happy with the design and that he can attach his lunch to the outside of his bag and make more room inside.

Great Backpack!
October 14, 2012
This backpack is well made and looks great! My son loves the design and has lots of pockets to put his things in. The small backpack is perfect for his lunch box and a jacket in the main compartment. It's not too big or bulky. Also his water bottles all seem to fit really well in the side water bottle holders. This is a great backpack, and I hope he can use it for at least a couple of years.

little guy feels like a big guy
October 2, 2012
My son has wanted this backpack from the first second he saw it in the catalog. He feels like such a big guy rolling this around. Cool pattern!
It seems rugged. It's more than I would have normally spent on a backpack, but I think it'll last a few years. It's rather large, lots of pockets. (It would work great as an overnight bag, too)
Only drawback is that it's a little cumbersome for my son to get it in and out of he car. When I can, I leave the front passengers seat pushed forward to make getting the backpack in and out a bit easier.
We've had the backpack for 2 weeks now. Overall, very pleased with the purchase!

Small is right!
August 31, 2012
This would be more a preschool sized backpack. I would not consider it a small but VERY small! The measurements are a bit deceiving. It is only 5 inches deep and only 11 inches wide. It is 12 inches wide including the side pockets. At the top of the backpack, it gets down to 9.5 inches wide. I was just told today by my sons kindergarten teacher that he needs a bigger backpack. Really? I just spend $40! Pretty disappointing.

Sizes are off
August 26, 2012
I purchased the "small" for my small 2nd grader. It wasn't as large as a "preschool" size backpack from another catalog company. Unfortunately, there was no way my second grader was going to be able to fit his daily folder, library books (on library day), lunch box, and water bottle on the side. We went into the store to purchase the next size up and they were out as was the internet so my son opted for the blue camo print. It is too bad because this print is really fun and unique for boys.

Fun, functional, and fantastic quality!
August 24, 2012
I purchased the small backpack in Gray Snake and Star Wars for my twin Kindergarten boys. I think they are wonderful! The colors of Gray Snake are vibrant and the pattern is just plain fun for boys! I think the size is perfect. It is small as others have noted, but I was able to fit two binders and a thin folder in it - for testing purposes only. No Kindergartener nor 1st grader should be carrying that much. I plan to use this for this year and their 1st grade year. After that I am sure they will need the large size.
Yesterday I noticed the fabric was pulling away in one small section from the piping. I called PBK and without hesitation the customer service rep looked up my order and requested a replacement be sent - no questions asked. When the new one comes I call them and they will send someone to pick up the old one from me. In the mean time my son gets to continue using his backpack so we are not without. That is top notch customer service!
Thank you Pottery Barn Kids!

Tiny!!!!
August 17, 2012
I'm furious! The preschool backpack is tiny! What a waste of $36. The description says 8.5 x 10.75 inches. I thought that since it looked pretty deep, I could possibly get a folder in it for preschool. It is more like 7 x 10.5 inches. The top is rounded so you lose even more room. This is more the size of a lunchbag. What a waste!!!
