great value

We bought this train for our grandson and it is a great way to begin a model train collection. He loves The Polar Express and it was fun around his tree. It is a manageable size and terrific for young train enthusiasts.

Very disappointed
December 27, 2012
I ordered this train two weeks before Christmas for my children to wake up to under the tree on Christmas morning. Unfortunately, the box came with large labels on the side and top of the that read Polar Express Lionel train set. My 7 year old was able to read it of course and I was unable to give it to them... Will be returning! I order from many other stores during the holidays and NEVER had this problem. Really, PBK, I would expect much more consideration and sensitivity to those you market to during christmastime!

Beautiful train

We got this for my 4 year old son for Christmas. He loves the Polar Express movie and this train is a perfect replica from the movie. It is great because my son can control the train and he can make the train make different sounds from the movie! He loves it!

enchanting

Expensive, but SO worth it!! so much safer than an electric train, but similar in all the best ways (ps - all "big boy" trains are a bit hard to get on the tracks; and it stays coupled when it is moving)
the pictures do not do it justice - all the little touches are SO precious...my favorite is that my son can press a button to hear the whistle, bell or hear Tom Hanks say "All aboard the Polar Express!" ...
it is also fairly sturdy - it HAS only been a day, but trust me my 3 yr old has already put it through its paces...
oh - and the part that almost made me cry when we opened it? the fact that it came with a bell-ornament - just like in the movie. he was so excited ("this was from the REINDEERS!! i can hear it")...and it got me all teary eyed, imagining him as a grown-up, placing it on his own tree, remembering the Christmas that he got one of his favorite gifts from Santa ;)

Very happpy little boy!

We ordered this online without seeing it in person and it definitely surpassed our expectations. Our 4 year old son was thrilled when he saw it come out of the box. He "chugs" the engine with ease and absolutely loves the figurines....the "ghost" by the fire on top of the train (in a trap door, so you don't always see him) with footprints in the snow is a nice detail. We like how big the train is, feels very sturdy, and love that it is battery operated opposed to electric (hate dealing with all those wires). It is a bit difficult to get the wheels on the tracks when using just curved tracks, but doable...and in my experience all trains like this have the same issue, so not that big of a deal to us. Overall this is a great product!

polar express train

I don't know what the other review was talking about because my son got one for Christmas and his works perfect. The train does not detached easily while in motion or not and his has never came off the track unless he takes it off. My son loves his train set. We would love to extend it with more tracks and trains.

overpriced train
December 25, 2011
I was very disappointed with the quality of this train, especially given that it is a Lionel and it was over $100. The cars become detached from each other easily, which is a nuisance. Also, the train comes off of the track easily and it is tricky to set the train on the track just so.
