Good preschool backpack!
March 29, 2013
Good little backpack. Just wish there was a size in between this one and the small, this one is a little too small for paper! My daughter loves it and brings it everywhere!

Small Backpack is too small
October 15, 2012
This is a good looking back pack, but the small one ordered for my Kindergartner was too small to fit a regular folder. you either have to fold it in half or the corners have to be squished in and bent. I should've listened to the online reviews and ordered the large one instead. The name also came embroidered crooked, but upon calling PB, they sent me a replacement right away.

Poor quality applique peels right off
October 11, 2012
My daughter has had this (very cute) backpack for less than one month. The bird applique has peeled up off the fabric and is barely hanging on. Considering the bird applique is the ONLY decoration on the bag, it's a pretty major problem.
For this price (and given how long we had to wait for this to arrive) I could not be more dispapointed. What a waste.
Bad quality. I won't be ordering one of these again.

Awesome backpack!
October 5, 2012
This is a great backpack! Lots of compartments, pockets, and 2 water bottle holders. I originally ordered the smaller size backpack but it was too small to hold a full size folder/binder. This one is really big- looks huge on my 6yo but holds everything + more and will be useable for at least 2-3 more years when she has to tote textbooks. Her PB lunchbox clips to the backpack but also fits well inside. All in all- great purchase and we are very happy with it!

Too small, quality not up to par
August 28, 2012
I must express disappointment in the small Fairfax backpack. The zipper pulls on the backpack were fraying immediately out of the shipping box, and after one day of school, some of the sewing on the top of the backpack is beginning to unravel as well.  In addition, the pack itself is really too small to be useful. In fact, it barely fits a standard 9 x 11.5 inch folder, and definitely does not fit the 9.5 x 12.5 inch folder that the school requires that my daughter carry to and from school each day. It would have been helpful had this been made clear from the pack's description, as the dimensions are deceiving. I have ordered from Pottery Barn kids many times in the past, and this is one of my most negative experiences to date. While I understand that monogrammed items can not be returned, I would expect that some kind of restitution could be made for this situation. As it stands, we will likely be unable to use this backpack, and will need to purchase a new one.

Love these backpacks!
August 13, 2012
These backpacks are very well made...my daughter is about to go into her 3rd year using the small Fairfax and my son is going into his 2nd year using one as well. The monogramming is a nice feature as well as the matching lunch boxes. I do have to say the old preschool fairfax backpack was bigger & nicer than the newer one...don't bother with it just get the small backpack. It will hold standard size folders.

So disappointed...
August 13, 2012
I purchased the Fairfax Pink Backpack in a small for my 5-year-old daughter who is starting Kindergarten. We were stunned that it is too small for a standard size folder. I couldn't agree more with the other customer who commented on the size. Young children would need to cram a folder inside in order to zip it closed. We monogrammed it, so there's no going back. Looking at the only other option (the large backpack) to go with the monogrammed lunch box we now own, we are very disappointed to learn it is no longer available with the horse or with the pink monogram thread to match our lunch box. The small shouldn't be quite this small.

Not worth the $$$
August 11, 2012
I have purchased PBK backpacks for years, but this one does not measure up. Three days after arrival, the iron on butterfly came off and the zipper pulls began to fray. My daughter is four and school hadn't even started! I returned it . I will stick with the McKenzie in the future.

Good but smaller than the small Mackenzie
August 11, 2012
I ordered last year's version of the pink Fairfax with matching lunchbox for my oldest daughter for pre-K. I ordered my younger daughter the small Mackenzie and when they arrived in the mail, I realized differences right away. The small Fairfax is smaller than the small Mackenzie by about 1.5-2 inches in length and width. The sides to hold the water bottle are not large enough to hold a standard water bottle- it realistically can only hold a short bottle with a very narrow diameter. I can squeeze one standard folder in there and am grateful that she doesn't really carry more than another book or two for Kindy so she will re-use it again this year. Definitely not as much storage space in there as I would like. Nice product, but in hindsight, I wished I ordered the small Mackenzie instead. I do not recommend the small Fairfax for any child entering a grade higher than Kindergarten. Do yourself a favor and pay the extra $ for the small Mackenzie or a larger sized Fairfax.

Pottery barn got this one WRONG !!
July 27, 2012
Just received this backpack in small size. My daughter is starting kindergarten and it is not even tall enough to fit a standard folder of size 9x12. All communication from teacher is received in a standard sized folder that a child has to carry everyday in backpack. All my daughter needs to carry is a folder and lunch box. I am very disappointed that a folder would not fit in this backpack or just barely fit with some corners bended. I had ordered the small size after carefully watching the video on the site. The small size needs to be atleast 1 to 2 inches larger in length, width and depth. Potterybarn, please know that 5-6 years old are not smart packers that they can arrange their *stuff* in tight space. They need little wiggle room in their bag just to throw things in and be able to zip it up without any effort. My 4th grader uses the large fairfax size but that is way too large for a kindergartener. Didn't realize small would be this small. I wish I had not personalized it.

Fairfax PreSchool/Small Backpacks & Lunch Bag
July 26, 2012
I bought the preschool size backpack for my daughter for preschool. It's the perfect size for her and we love it. It fits what it's described as being able to fit and that's it. Only problem is that it cannot fit a folder that they require. The backpack is the perfect size for the child but not for some of the things they carry. Wish they would just make smaller folders instead! So, we also purchased the size small, which I am awaiting. The lunch bag is great too - 5 stars. I wondered why it didn't clip onto the preschool bag but it's because it would all be to heavy for a preschool child. I will update my review when I try out the size small backpack.

Cute but small
July 18, 2012
I got the Fairfax backpack, size small for my soon-to-be first grader. It's a darling backpack, looks really durable, but is smaller than I thought it would be. I ordered based on PB size chart: small fits children 43"-49". But it's a tight squeeze to fit a lunchbox and pocket folder in the main compartment, and it even looks small on her back. Luckily, first graders don't haul much more than a lunchbox and folder, so it will work for now. I would exchange it for a larger size, but it's monogrammed. C'est la vie.
