Just what I wanted
May 7, 2013
I am currently using this as a diper bag since my son is young but plan to keep it until he is old enough to use it himself. I love the size of each compartment and it has a nice clean look to it. Seems sturdy so far though I have only had it for a couple of weeks.

great backpack
March 6, 2013
I ordered two of these for my sons to replace their PBK rolling backpacks that just broke. (My third son's is still in good shape.) One strap broke on each backpack. I think that this is their FOURTH year using the backpacks! every day! active boys! I am very pleased with the backpacks and have already recommended them to friends.

pretty but color fades after 3 months of use
February 9, 2013
I love the backpack, the design and compartments, I bought it on navy blue with the baseball ball patch and my son's name , we really like it but after a few months of use color fades completely and it looked like very old, I was completely upset of the quality of this backpack.

I got the small backpack for my 4 year old son. It's a good size for him and fits everything he needs for pre-school (snack box, folder, and nap mat) without being too heavy. The colors are beautiful, it looks durable, and comfortable for my son. I am very happy with my purchase and will definately buy again in the future.

Fairfax backpacks
January 21, 2013
The backpack itself is great! However, I think I misunderstood the sizing because since there is a "preschool" backpack and a "large" backpack I assumed that the one in between would be like a normal size backpack but its not. It would actually be great for preschool aged kids as it's JUST large enough for a folder size item to fit (or several items of that size), just not taller for any books that may be taller than a regular sized folder. It fits my kindergarten age child, but some of his books from the library won't fit. If you are considering this for a kindergarten or older, I would definitely purchase the large. It's a great backpack, just didn't read the dimensions and purchased based on "small, medium and large" options.

This backpack is perfect for a pre-schooler

The patch had to be sewn on as the glue did not hold it, even before it was used.

Dissapointed
January 10, 2013
I ordered this item specifcally because of the patch. My patch was cancelled but PB Kids never notified me that my item was not available and never gave me the option to cancel my order. I received the backpack at full charge and as it was embroidered it cannot be returned. I am dissapointed that this is the way PB and PB Kids have been doing business lately.

Preschool back pack
January 3, 2013
I ordered this preschool back pack for my 3 year old to take to nursery school. I had it engraved with his name and had a "star" patch put on it. I really would not recommend this back pack to anyone- it is entirely too small! Teachers (even in preschool) need a back pack that they can send a folder or papers/artwork home in and this definitely can fit NONE of the above! Because I had it embroidered I unfortunately cannot return it. The embroidery was very nice- as I have ordered numerous things from PBK and have been happy with the embroidery. However the patch is already lifting off the back pack as well-(it is a brand new back pack) I am really surprised- not the PBK quality that I am used to.

Love the Navy Fairfax small backpack! It's the perfect size too. I wanted it to be large enough to fit books, some toys, & a change of clothes! My 3 yr old loves wearing the backpack too. It's slightly too big, but his preschool one doesn't fit as much. We love it so much that we ordered the same one for his cousin and the black one for his little brother.

Extremely poor product
December 22, 2012
The backpack is so small that it does not serve a practical purpose. It is also very poor quality. The patch is not stitched on, it is actually barely attached with glue. It fell off within the first 5 minutes.

Great for daycare
November 29, 2012
This backpack is great for our infant son to take to daycare. We can pack a lot into it and it's easy to find things inside of it. Older son as the Mackenzie small backpack which I like slight better (the straps on the front are a nice option, but comes in limited "boy" colors). The way that the lunchbox clips on is an odd design.

Disappointed
November 29, 2012
I purchased two Fairfax backpacks for my boy/girl twins 6 years ago. While we mainly use the backpacks for travel, they have held up very well without any tears, rips, or pulls. I ordered my youngest a Fairfax backpack so his would match his siblings, and when I received the backpack I was very disappointed. The quality is very average and it is obvious Pottery Barn has gone cheaper with the fabric and design. The backpack is not as big. Previously, the large backpack contained an extra zipper to make the backpack larger when needed. This new design contains no extra zipper. In addition, the personalization threading is not as clean and is a bit crooked. Unless Pottery Barn's quality comes up to par, I will not be purchasing another backpack from them. I don't expect this one to last long.

Nice, but not as nice as the last version...
November 17, 2012
I have this same backpack for my older son, and my 3-year-old told me he wanted to write his name on his backpack, too. :) Instead of handing him a marker, I came to buy another one just like it, so they're match (other than their names, obviously!). I was a little disappointed it isn't quite as nice as the older version, even though it's the same (other than a couple cosmetic things). The space inside it seems smaller, too (but it IS the same size). All in all, it's nice and I'll keep it, but I wish I could have had the older version.

Small Backpack Too Small
November 14, 2012
I have the large backpack that is very large for my 3rd grader and is used as a weekend bag, so I ordered the small backpack for him. It is too small and fits him like a preschool backpack. None of his folders fit, yes - folders, and his fairfax lunchbox takes up the entire pack. I also ordered the preschool backpack for my 3-year old and it too is very small. As usual, the quality is there but the dimensions are way off. They need to make a medium sized pack for elementary school-aged kids and make sure they use a regular sized, rectangular notebook as a guide.

Backpack
November 13, 2012
This is the perfect backpack for my 3 year old son. We have not started preschool yet, so I cannot say if it will be good for that. I will say that for carrying stuff (i.e. change of clothes; toys; etc.) to-and-from church, it is working out great. He is a short fella, so the bookbag hangs a little low, but it is not something that he can't handle.

Captain America FYI
November 12, 2012
We purchased the Fairfax backpack for Christmas. So this review is a little early but, it maybe helpful to others. We had it personalized in red in the RYAN font and it shows up nicely against the Navy. Unfortunately the first letter looks like it was rushed so its pulled tighter with a slant that is not seen in the other letters.
The (Captain America Shield) is not a thread embroidered patch. If you zoom into the patch it has a satin like texture and appears as if someone struggled to color it in with a marker. In the bottom white ring it has licensing info printed rather largely.
If you're hesitant I would avoid the personalization and the patches and have it done locally.

Recommend hesitantly
November 7, 2012
I ordered the large backpack last year for my 8 year old son, and all in all, it has served it's purpose well as a school backpack. However, for what I paid for it, I was hoping to get more than a year's use out of it, and thought the quality would hold up. The zipper has broken into two pieces and the threading has started to unravel.
I still like it a lot, and would recommended it, as long as you know it will probably only last one school year.

Love it!
October 31, 2012
I got this bag as well as the one in red for my two little boys. The bags are so adorable! We get so many compliments on them. It is the perfect size for my 2 year old to carry by himself and he loves to do it! I had them personalized and they turned out amazing. The bags are of great quality and I think will last long enough for them to take to preschool in a few years. I highly recommend this bag.
