Love this!

We ordered this in the 'sun valley espresso' color and it's absolutely beautiful! Very nice quality wood....it had 0 scratches and was easy to put together. It took us about 45-50 minutes I think, but wasn't frustrating at all. I was glad it came with a tip-resistant kit since it was for our 2.5 year old's room. She pulled at it once but it didn't fall since we have it anchored to a stud in the wall. We are very happy with this bookcase!

Loved the book case... but never could use

I loved the picture of this book case, I was looking forward to having this bookshelf to complete my son's room. However after 2 replacements, this bookshelf had to be returned. Not only are the instructions to build difficult to understand, but also need at least two people to put it together and the wood splits! The wood split every time, the wood pegs expand and cause the wood to split. The stain also on the wood is dripped in spots and not on perfect as it should. I order a lot from PBK and this is the first and only product I've ever had that was not of the best quality. Disappointed in this item and hope they can either start shipping this preassembled. PBK customer service has been OUTSTANDING and soo helpful with this item. They took care of everything for me.

Horrible horrible finish

The bookcase was shipped quickly and it went together fast without any problems BUT the finish is HORRIBLE. There are places where the stain dripped or the poly dripped, places where the stain is missing, a hugely obvious place where they had a hole and used filler to fix the hole but it doesn't stain the same shade. Very unhappy with this purchase. Since it was on clearance I can't make a return and even on clearance it wasn't cheap enough to warrant this poor quality.

Pretty but ...

I would give this bookshelf 4-5 stars except for the assembly. You basically have to build it from scratch. My dad (who has experience with building) had to come help us because we couldn't figure it out. As it turns out, some of the holes didn't line up, and he had to drill new holes to make it work. In my opinion, for the cost of the shelf, but the insanely high shipping AND delivery charges, it should come assembled. Once it was put together, it looked beautiful.

Hard to put together!

Product ultimately looks nice, but you are literally putting the thing together from scratch. Takes at least two people to do. Looks nice once it's done, but for the price and surcharge, I didn't expect to have to have the allen-wrench the thing for an hour or so.

Pain to assemble

Very pleased with the delivery time and look of the shelf. The bookcase is very solid, but it is a pain to assemble. The instructions were in broken English and very frustrating to actually assemble. For the price, you'd think it would come assembled (or at least have instructions written in a way that can be understood).

Good Product

We got this book shelf and was super excited to put it together for my 2 yr old. When we went to put it together the screw went through the side panel of the shelf so we had to get a replacement part. I was very un-impressed with the quality. I thought it would be a little more heavy duty of a product considering the price. PBK sent me the wrong replacement part also so I had to wait for another to be shipped. I hope to here in the near furture finally have the book shelf available to use. Nice to have but not impressed with quality vs. price.

very disappointed with Pottery Barn products

We ordered this bookcase and the bookcase is missing some pegs to hold the shelves. I have had to call 4 times trying to request pegs so we can use this. It has been going on over a month and I am still no closer to having the pegs than I was when I ordered the product. I can't say how disappoined I am in Pottery Barn and their products. I have ordered 5-6 things from either Pottery Barn Kids or Pottery Barn Teen since October; they have come to me damaged, dirty, etc. I even had part of an ordered canceled without them notifying twice. This will be my last purchase from them for a long time!

Buyer beware...damaged goods

I'm very disappointed in this product. We never even got a chance to enjoy it because the initial and the replacement products were BOTH damaged. There is obvious damage to the wood (cracks in the wood, splits on the side of the wood). It's not worth asking for a third replacement because, at this rate, who knows if that will also be damaged?? It's very frustrating to have to disassemble the bookshelf for the second time and put it back out for pickup again. Don't buy this product. The quality is sub-par, there is obviously no QA, and I'm not wasting my money on any other bookshelves produced by this company.

This is a great bookcase. Order came in 3 days after I placed it. Very sturdy and can hold many books. Only negative is that putting it together was not easy. Some of the materials did not match up as they should have and really needed forcing to screw in the pieces. Once it's put together it's great!

Great bookcases

I purchased 2 of the Catalina bookcases. I got white for my daughter and espresso for my son. Assembly was pretty easy. I brought these bookcases because I wanted furniture that would last and that would work for my kids now and as they grow up.

Way too long

Wow!! It took forever to get the product. It was a ship to store item and then the store sent it to me UPS. Unfortunately, the item was not in good condition. Called the store and they called the DC to have another one sent to their store. It took longer than we liked but the bookcase matches the other furniture. The sales person apologized for any inconvience. We understood that the store did everything they could to expediate the process.

Lovely but difficult to assemble.

We bought this bookcase for my son's room. He's almost 2 and it's a perfect addition to his train themed room. It has nice deep shelves and holds all of his books nicely and it's a perfect height for youngsters. My only complaint is that it was a pain to put together! Wish it could have arrived already assembled.

beautiful to the naked eye

just got this and got it put together, it didn't really take long to put together but i noticed that it did have to dents to the back of the bookshelfs wood and the wood split in one part. but it was all in the back where you cant see it now and it seems very sturdy. it looks beautiful to the naked eye in her room and it was a much needed investment. but for so much money it shouldn't have these defects.

Attractive bookcase, but not well made

Very disappointed in the design for putting this together. Like others, we had issues with wood spliting when tightening bolts. We have two cracks on the front - one on either side at the top of the bookcase. We decided it wasn't worth returning, particulalry given this was a perfect fit for the room. We bought the seligh crib and ultimate changing table from PBK and had no problem with either of those. We wanted antique white, but I'm not sure why PBK can't get their color descriptions right on the furniture. We asked before ordering and they told us it would be antique white despite the description just saying white. It would also be nice if all of their antique whites were the same shade.

We bought this bookcase for our 2-year-old son's room (in addition to the Catalina dresser chest) and it is perfect for his books, toys, picture frames, etc. Looks just like the picture and is very sturdy. I would definitely recommend this bookshelf to a friend!

Very Cute and Sturdy Bookcase

Ordered this for my son's bedroom in the Espresso finish. Arrived quickly, easy to assemble, good quality, and matches quite well with his bedroom furniture made by another manufacturer. Only issue was a gash in one of the shelves upon arrival; however, after contacting customer service, they immediately sent out a replacement shelf. Overall, I am very satisfied, especially since the bookcase that matched his actual furniture would have cost 3x as much!

This is cute put together but I wouldn't call it white. It is off white for sure.
Not super high quality as a piece was able to easily break off. We were able to fix it ourselves, but for the money, it shouldn't be easy to break.

So, after being on back-order, my husband and I received this bookcase about 2 weeks ago. Our daughter was very excited about it.. she's 4 and loves books and organization. Well, when we took it out of the box and laid all of the pieces out, we thought it seemed a little cheap. Then as we started to put it together, we were very frustrated about the cracks that were being made in the wood by screwing the parts together. I called PBK, and they offered either a new one (which was back-ordered again) or a $50 gift card. I thought this was really nice, and we went with the gift card because we didn't want to wait, and our daughter was too excited about having it. In all, it looks really pretty once put together. The cracks are under the top and are hardly noticeable. It's quite pricey to be of not the greatest quality, but our daughter is happy, and that's fine with us.

Poor construction and finish

So disappointed again with furniture from PBK. We got the bookshelf a week ago. Today, my husband was putting it together ad one of the panels cracked while he was putting in one of the screws!!!! Unbelievable. This furniture is not cheap at all!!!! Look adorable on the catalogs but once you get it delivered you can tell it is of poor craftmanship and not really too much attention to detail or quality. Will not be giving my business to PBK.
